A few words from Mr B Bignall, our Chair of Governors…
Let me tell you about school Governors. The Governing Body at Grange has 18 places, all populated with individuals from different backgrounds. Some are teachers at Grange, others are Local Authority appointed, parents of children attending the school, interested individuals from the wider community, non-teaching staff from the school, or associate Governors. The Governing Body is responsible to the Local Authority for the monitoring of the school’s performance, academically and socially. Governors are encouraged to be a "critical friend" of the school, to monitor but not interfere with the application of the curriculum and other academic and spiritual standards. All Governor duties are voluntary and unpaid.
The Chair of Governors is a link between the Local Authority, school Head Teacher and the whole Governing Body. Meetings are held once every term, (6 times each academic year). All of the Governors visit the school regularly, (not always by appointment), to keep aware of progress within the curriculum and other areas of our pupils’ education and development.
The Governors are keen to hear your comments and ideas about our school and the standard of education the children receive so, if you see any member of the Governor team please introduce yourself and let’s have a discussion. Likewise, if you have the time and would like to help with children reading etc, let us know, because your assistance would be very welcome.
Occasionally, as children move on to higher education, a parent Governor vacancy occurs. All parents will be informed when these situations become available. New parent Governors are appointed by a ballot of all parents with children attending our school. If you feel you may wish to become involved with Grange Primary as a parent Governor don’t be shy, put your name on the ballot paper and have a go!
FroGs
FroGS stands for Friends Of Grange School. It is a group made up of parents, grandparents, friends and teachers all with a similar outlook on helping to provide for the children at Grange.
Together we organize fundraising events and social evenings to develop relationships and of course raise money for the luxuries we would otherwise have to do without.
We are a very happy bunch and would love more new members to come and join us.
